Let’s take a moment, first, to understand why I chose to consider “Sacred Whore” an adventure. This practicing and stumbling Buddhist desires to share with you her journey into an undefined yoga uniting the mind and the G-spot. We talk about the ideal of the bodhisattva – but who the hell is this consort that always seems to straddle him anyway? It isn’t difficult to find thankgas of varying deities in Tibetan esoteric art in sexual union with a consort riding him like an equestrian gold medalist….
Is she a Sacred Whore?
Seriously, we have this consort, this partner, who is screwing a bodhisattva. She’s a part of the picture, too, so why all the fuss about merely and solely sitting in a full-lotus, counting the breaths, practicing vipassana meditation and contemplation of the concept of emptiness? Can’t we utilize this other half of the image, and make love as well on our way to enlightenment?
This is part of my goal for Sacred Whore…..to explore the imagery and symbolism in that Tantric consort. It’s one thing – and a very good thing at that – to contemplate our Buddha nature as an absolute. I’m wondering and pondering if there is value in contemplating our nature as the consort as well. In other words – I’m embarking on an adventure to discover not only my true nature as a Buddha, but my true nature as a Sacred Whore.
So, again, welcome to my adventure. May this be a blessing and a gift of great fortune upon all who share this journey with me.
Sexual tantra is the quick but difficult path to enlightenment so I’ve been told. It is ideal for women and lay practitioners.
I find fascinating and somewhat awful the way the west has degraded tantric practice to just be about having good sex rather than a path to spiritual enlightenment. I believe in BOTH. But good sex isn’t necessarily tantric – I think there must be the spiritual component both are working towards.
After all, isn’t it the goal in tantric sex NOT to have an orgasm? To turn those energies inward and control them?
Hi Zenuria! Thanks so much for stopping by, and welcome to Sacred Whore!
I agree with your comment, btw. And like other tantras, sexual yogas are extremely quick yet extremely difficult because it carries with it such potency. Thus, the higher yoga tantras have the capability for that much more transformation than simple vipassana meditation alone. In that regard, the marketing of tantric sex as mere bedroom technique diminishes the spiritual power of tantra down to practically zero.
There have been SOME Western tantric sex volumes out there from the Indian Hindu traditions of the Left Hand paths….more specifically discussing the Chakra Puja secret rituals…..but most are visualizations of the Shiva and Shakti without much more explanation or discourse of the transformative power of this Deity Yoga outside of the bedroom.
As far as the goal to not have an orgasm, I have not found that in my studies and practices, but rather to become awakened to this energy and to harness it and direct it toward the benefit of all sentient beings. Hence I agree with your query : “turn those energies inward and control them.”
In other words, and I apologize for sounding too simplistic, it all comes back to being mindful of oneself and the phenomena that surrounds this self that I call “I”.
Once again, welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy yourself here and I thank you for your contributions. Many blessings to you!
